High-speed Video Recording
High-speed videos
System
IMS recently purchased a MotionPro
(Redlake) high-speed video camera for use in IMS research
and industrial applications. The IMS MotionPro system operates
at frame rates up to 2000 frames/sec at a full resolution
of 1280 x 1024 pixels. A memory extension of 6 GB is available
for longer recording times. The camera is equipped with a
FlexPAC Power
Portable to facilitate mobile and outdoor video capture.
Applications
Videos captured at high frame rates provide
new insights in a wide variety of applications including
automotive industry (e.g., crash
tests [McSwain Engineering])
biomechanics and medicine (e.g.,
vocal cord movement)
sports and entertainment (e.g., dance
video 1 (3,2MB AVI), dance
video 2 (1,8MB AVI); both AVIs are shrinked and compressed)
physics, chemistry, and materials science (e.g., impact
and damage problems, visual
inspection techniques)
example applications on the redlake webpage
motion analysis in biology and medicine
Projects & Camera Usage Policy
Current IMS high-speed research includes studies on human motion
capture (e.g., for character animation) and biomechanical applications,
in co-operation with the Institute
for Biomechanics at the
University of Vienna. The video camera will also be available
for selected student projects within the study courses of Medieninformatik
(Bakkalaureat, Master) and Computergrafik und Digitale Bildverarbeitung
(Master). Under certain conditions, the camera can be temporarily
rented by other academic or industrial institutions. For more
information, please, contact Dr.
Margrit Gelautz.
