Prinziple

• GPS : about 10 m accuracy
• DGPS : about 1 m and less accuracy
  needs a base station and online correction information via
  
  • radio
  • mobile telephone
  • satellite connection
• phase GPS : in realtime aka RTK
  accuracy down to a centimeter
  needs base station as well and good satellite coverage

Correction stations at the TU

• there is none currently
• there is also no commercial network !
• Wien Strom is building a network that might be available
• Prof. Retscher has a project submitted, that would install a station

Coverage in the TU area

• in the streets pretty bad, only working somehow at intersections
• park ok, some streets adjacend to it as well

Devices

• typically a GPS receiver (or whatever its called)
• an antenna for better satellite readings
• additional communications stuff for DGPS
• geodatic
  • high accuracy, up to 1 cm
  • bad form factor
• navigational
  • less accuracy, but still good if equipped with antennas up to 0.5 m
  • good form factor
