Modeling Computer-Supported Clinical Guidelines and Protocols. A Survey.
By Katharina Kaiser and Silvia Miksch
Abstract
Clinical Practice Guidelines are an important means for improving quality in care. They describe systematic developed statements to promulgate the most effective and efficient treatment. Due to the growing complexity of treatment processes there arose efforts to provide a computer-supported interpretation and execution of the clinical guidelines. In this paper we present several methodologies that were developed for computer- supported clinical practice guidelines. We describe the different strengths and weaknesses of the various approaches as well as methods and tools to author guidelines in a computer-supported way.
