The main goal of this thesis will be to develop an algorithm for calculation of geometric surface which will cast the caustics (projected specular light patterns) of the desired shape. The algorithm will search for a mapping from the initial light projection to the target light distribution. This mapping will be used to calculate the normal map and the geometry of the caustic generator surface which can be then fabricated from real material. Emphasis will be given on the accuracy of projection and the physical constraints of real materials. The developed algorithm can be beneficial for many areas in research and industry including lighting design, automotive industry, and art.
