Social Event Detection

Master Thesis, Bachelor Thesis, or Practicum

About This Topic

The goal is to discover events and detect media items that are related to either a specific social event or an event-class of interest. A social event may be for example soccer games, demonstrations, conferences, etc.

The dataset that is processed contains flickr images with textual annotations and stems from the Mediaeval Social Event Detection Task in 2012 (see: http://www.multimediaeval.org/mediaeval2012/sed2012).

The goal is to find clusters of images that relate to the same social event. For this purpose a graph-based approach based on clustering should be implemented and tested.
