Wide Area Indoor Tracking

Lab project in the area of Virtual and Augmented Reality.

Keywords: Wide Area Tracking, Real-Time Optical Tracking, Indoor, Unconstrained Environments, Harsh Environments.

About this Project

In this project, a real-time tracking system is developed that tracks multiple active infrared targets in real-time within large volumes. A minimum set of two high quality machine vision cameras is used to cover tracking distances up to 50m while providing centimeter accuracy. The system handles interferences such as occlusions, static and moving lights in the volume, fog and dust during set-up, calibration and tracking and thus can be deployed in unconstrained as well as harsh indoor environments. Thereby, the system can act as wide area tracking system for virtual reality applications, monitoring people for security or during artistic performances as well as machine and robot monitoring in remote control scenarios.
