Innovative production workflow for precise 3D scene reconstruction

Research project in the area of Image and Video Analysis & Synthesis.

About this Project

The goal of the project is the development of a scalable and cost-efficient workflow for the accurate 3D scanning of film sets and the creation of corresponding high-quality 3D models of dynamic indoor and outdoor scenes of variable sizes. The innovative system consists of a distributed set of compact 3D Measurement Units (3DMUs) that enable autonomous stereo video acquisitions from selected viewpoints along with suitable synchronization mechanisms. On the post-production side, these large amounts of information will enable the high-quality depth reconstruction for each 3DMU and further the creation of precise 3D models by combining calibration and depth information from all 3DMUs in an appropriate fusion step. The project work encompasses the design and implementation of state-of-the-art algorithms for stereo reconstruction, geometric 3D data processing and modeling, and interactive depth map post-correction, in conjunction with related evaluation techniques.
